ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2024

ANNUAL REPORT 2022 – DEVATOP CENTRE FOR AFRICA DEVELOPMENT
Overview
In 2022, DEVATOP Centre for Africa Development focused on strengthening community responses to human trafficking, gender-based violence, and abuse through the TALKAM Against Trafficking and Abuse (TATA) project. This initiative was funded by Pamplona City, Spain, and supported by Accion Contra la Trata. It was implemented across three Nigerian states—FCT, Edo, and Enugu—covering six area councils and multiple local government areas.
Key Objectives
The project aimed to educate youth, teachers, and community members on human trafficking and abuse; promote community-based reporting through the TALKAM Human Rights App; and provide empowerment opportunities to survivors for effective reintegration.
Major Activities & Achievements
-
Community Sensitization: Over 1.5 million people were sensitized through radio programs, social media, and in-person campaigns. The TALKAM Radio Program reached an estimated 13 million listeners across FCT, Edo, and Enugu.
-
Teacher Capacity Building: DEVATOP trained 30 teachers as advocates against human trafficking and abuse. These teachers later reached 2,880 students across their schools, creating lasting awareness among young people.
-
Survivor Empowerment: 20 survivors of human trafficking received training in entrepreneurship and business management. Four survivors with outstanding ideas were awarded ₦100,000 each, while others received branding support, business cards, and online visibility assistance.
-
ICT & Website Support: DEVATOP developed websites and business materials for survivors and provided one-year ICT support to strengthen their business growth.
-
Awareness & Sports Campaigns: The Red Card to TIP sports event and awareness drives reached 1,500 people physically and over 1,000 online.
-
Use of TALKAM App: A total of 18 human rights and abuse cases were reported via the TALKAM App, enhancing public participation in justice and accountability.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
An M&E framework tracked progress through both qualitative and quantitative data. A knowledge-based assessment showed a 3% increase in teacher participants’ knowledge post-training. Regular evaluations ensured effectiveness and accountability.
