DEVATOP Sensitizes Students on Child Rights at Pathfinder Talent Height School, Ijegun Egba, Lagos State

On February 11, 2026, the Devatop Centre for Africa Development, with support from The Freedom Fund an funding from the U.S. Department of State. carried out a school sensitization program at Pathfinder Talent Height School, in the Ijegun Egba community of Lagos State, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote child protection and safeguard the rights of children.

The sensitization session brought together a total of 102 students, including 29 males and 73 females, who actively participated in discussions centered on child rights and the prevention of all forms of child abuse.

During the session, DEVATOP representatives educated students on how to recognize the signs of maltreatment and identify situations that may constitute abuse. The interactive engagement provided a safe space for students to learn, ask questions, and better understand their rights and personal safety.

In addition, students were guided on safe and appropriate reporting mechanisms. They were encouraged to speak up by reporting concerns to trusted adults within their school and community, as well as utilizing other established channels for reporting abuse. This emphasis on reporting aims to ensure that cases of abuse are not left unaddressed.

The sensitization significantly enhanced students’ awareness of their rights, strengthened their ability to identify various forms of abuse, and built their confidence to seek help when necessary. By equipping young people with knowledge and practical tools, the initiative contributes meaningfully to the prevention of child abuse and the promotion of a safer environment for children.

DEVATOP remains committed to empowering children and communities through education, advocacy, and action to end all forms of abuse and exploitation.
