school sensitization session in Community Nursery and primary school In Afromedia Ajangbadi

On 30th September Devatop Centre for Africa Development conducted a school sensitization session in Community Nursery and primary school 2 In Afromedia Ajangbadi with a total of 79 children (44 males and 35 females).

The session started with a brief introduction of Freedom Fund and Devatop Centre for Africa Development, and the purpose of our visit. We sensitized the children on Child Rights — their right to have names, right to be protected from danger, right to health care, right to education, right to go to school, and right to freedom of speech.

A child also spoke up, reminding her peers of their right to good parental care and emphasizing that Child Domestic Workers (CDWs), whether living with relatives or non-relatives, also have all these rights and deserve equal rights as every other child. She highlighted some challenges faced by special children including CDWs. The session further covered drug abuse — types of drugs commonly abused, causes of drug abuse among teenagers, and its effects and dangers.

We also discussed types of abuse, prevention strategies, and safe ways to report abuse, including the Child Rights and the Child Rights Game to help children better understand their rights. The children were highly engaged and participatory throughout the session.

Thank you.
