The National Orientation Agency (NOA) Leads Sensitization Road Walk to Promote Protection of Child Domestic Workers in Dopemu, Lagos State

On 8 December, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) carried out a sensitization road walk across Dopemu community of Lagos State and its surrounding communities, aimed at raising public awareness on the protection of child domestic workers and the urgent need to prevent their maltreatment. The road walk engaged residents, employers, community members, and passersby, drawing attention to the rights of children in domestic work settings and the responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure their safety and well-being.

Through placards, direct community engagement, and public messaging, the exercise emphasized best practices that promote safe, dignified, and supportive work environments for children. Participants were encouraged to recognize signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and to take appropriate actions to safeguard children from harm.

The sensitization activity formed part of the ongoing project to protect Child Domestic Workers, funded by the Freedom Fund with support from the United States Department of State. The initiative is being implemented through coordinated stakeholder engagement, with playing a key role in mobilizing and supporting government agencies to take concrete actions aligned with their institutional mandates.

By bringing the conversation directly to the streets and communities, the road walk reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in protecting vulnerable children and strengthening community-based efforts to uphold child rights. The initiative further demonstrated the commitment of partners to promoting awareness, accountability, and sustainable actions toward ending the exploitation and maltreatment of child domestic workers.
