Adolescent Girls Empowered as DEVATOP Commemorates World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Lagos and Abuja

DEVATOP Centre for Africa Development commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene Day through sensitization activities in Lagos and Abuja, aimed at promoting menstrual health, personal hygiene, child protection, and the well-being of adolescent girls.
As part of the commemoration, DEVATOP organized an awareness session at Ansarudeen Primary School, Adosoba, Lagos, where young girls were educated on the importance of menstrual health and hygiene. The students paid close attention as they learned the dos and don’ts of menstrual hygiene and how proper menstrual management contributes to their overall health and well-being.
The session also focused on encouraging healthy daily habits through practical demonstrations on body care and oral hygiene. The girls actively participated by demonstrating proper bathing techniques, correct toothbrushing methods, and the appropriate use and disposal of menstrual pads. To support their menstrual hygiene needs, sanitary pads were distributed to the participants.
In Abuja, DEVATOP conducted a Case Management and Menstrual Hygiene Sensitization at School Without Walls, Camp David. The session brought together students and school personnel for discussions on human trafficking, abuse, exploitation, violence prevention, child safeguarding, safe reporting pathways, and the use of the TALKAM Digital Case Management and Reporting Platform.
Participants gained valuable knowledge on recognizing warning signs of abuse, protecting themselves and others from harm, and accessing appropriate reporting channels when incidents occur. The sensitization further strengthened awareness of child protection and safety measures within the school community. As part of the Menstrual Hygiene Day commemoration, sanitary pads were also distributed to adolescent girls at the school to support effective menstrual hygiene management and promote menstrual dignity.
The activities received positive responses from participants, demonstrating a strong commitment among students and school personnel to become advocates for child protection, safety, and well-being within their schools and communities.
Through these activities, DEVATOP Centre for Africa Development reinforced the importance of menstrual health education, child safeguarding, and creating safe environments where children and young people can thrive.
