VOICES UNCHAINED SURVIVAL INITIATIVE LAUNCH
On Wednesday, the 30th of September 2026, we attended the launch of the Voices Unchained Survival Initiative, themed “Five Pillars, One Nation.”
The event brought together survivors of human trafficking and key stakeholders, including representatives from the British High Commission, UK National Crime Agency (NCA), NAPTIP, NAPTAL, UNODC, CCN, CSOs, and other partners.
A major focus of the event was the importance of placing survivors at the centre of anti-trafficking efforts. Rather than only speaking about survivors, the initiative emphasises involving them in identifying solutions, creating awareness, sharing their experiences, and educating others on trafficking and its warning signs.
A key question raised during the discussions was: “How do we protect other Nigerians from falling into the same trap?” This highlighted the importance of learning from survivors’ experiences to strengthen prevention and awareness efforts.
The organisers also presented their six-month impact report, highlighting progress made since the initiative began, and acknowledged the contributions of NAPTIP, NAPTAL, CSOs, and other stakeholders supporting the fight against human trafficking.
Overall, the event reinforced the importance of survivor-led advocacy, prevention, awareness, collaboration, and collective action in addressing human trafficking.
