Mentorship Clinic Inspires Child Domestic Workers to Dream Big in Okoko, Community

Despite the cloudy weather on Friday, Devatop Centre for Africa Development successfully held another impactful Mentorship Clinic in Okoko Community, Lagos, bringing together 23 child domestic workers (CDWs) for an engaging session focused on career development and personal growth. The mentorship clinic adopted a unique and interactive approach that immediately created a welcoming atmosphere. The session began with a fun icebreaker facilitated by Mrs. Musa, helping the children relax, connect, and actively participate throughout the programme.
Building on this positive energy, the facilitator guided the children through activities designed to help them identify their individual skills, interests, and hobbies. The discussions encouraged them to recognize how their talents and passions can be transformed into meaningful opportunities and future career paths. The session also focused on career planning, with the children learning the importance of setting goals, making informed decisions, and remaining committed to achieving their aspirations. They were encouraged to dream beyond their current circumstances and reminded that the choices they make today can have a lasting impact on the future they hope to build.
To make the learning experience more practical and engaging, the participants took part in career exploration exercises. Various career-themed pictures were shared with the children, exposing them to a wide range of professions and inspiring thoughtful conversations about the careers they would like to pursue in the future.
The mentorship clinic concluded on a highly positive note, with participants leaving the session feeling inspired, motivated, and more confident about their potential. Through initiatives like this, Devatop Centre for Africa Development continues to equip child domestic workers with the knowledge, guidance, and encouragement they need to build brighter futures.
The mentorship clinic forms part of Devatop’s ongoing efforts to strengthen care and protection systems for child domestic workers in Lagos State under the progect to address exploitative child domestic work, supported by the Freedom Fund with funding from the U.S. Department of State.
