180 Degree Consulting and DEVATOP: Strengthening nonprofits to achieve a greater social impact

180 Degrees Consulting by Emory University run by 5 students, offered consulting services to Devatop Centre for Africa Development between February and April, 2022. 180 Degrees Consulting is the world’s largest volunteer consultancy that seeks to help nonprofits achieve a greater social impact. The engagement involved Devatop Center for African Development (DEVATOP) providing information on a potential or existing problem, and student team form devised solutions to the identified problems with fresh eyes and unique perspectives.

At the request of DEVATOP, 180 Degree consulting team developed and recommended solutions to the problem of financing. They suggested that DEVATOP should execute fundraising and increase global support through partnerships that go beyond financial aid which will help bring their values to the limelight.

In addition to the recommendations, the team of student consultants designed robust templates, strategy designs and compiled directories of partners and grantors that DEVATOP could engage in their quest to solve the identified challenges with financing.

Below are profiles of the team of consultants and their unique contribution to DEVATOP:

Tamsin Kernick majors in Business Management and Sociology. She is the team lead and worked on ensuring all tasks were completed. Her primary focuses were on-campus fundraising, creating a list of grants, locating grants writing resources, and the TALKAM internship.

Claudia Smith majors in Economics and Psychology. Her primary focus in the team wes to establish recommendations regarding building relationships with other nonprofits. She created a draft email system to send to potential partners as well as a list of partners.

Matthew Kim majors in Business Management and Political Science – As a team member, his primary focus was to research specific groups to target when fundraising. He created a list of potential target demographics.

Jessie Betancourt: Business Management and French – As a team member, her primary focus wes to establish recommendations regarding building relationships with university clubs internationally. She created a draft email system to send to potential organizations as well as a list of organizations.

Fareed Khan majors in Business Management and Economics, his primary focus in the team was to think of ways to gain online fundraising resources. He created a list of potential crowdfunding sites to consider.

Remarkably, the team went ahead to fundraise $100 for DEVATOP and have shown commitment to helping the organization by continuous conversation geared at helping DEVATOP rise above identified challenges..
